Biography :Ms. Helene Phillips is a creator, director, and choreographer of significant experience working with legendary performers and directors for the past 20 years. A native of Los Angeles, her film, television and commercial credits are numerous including Capt. EO starring Michael Jackson, Madonna’s Who’s that Girl World Tour, A Chorus Line starring Michael Douglas, Staying Alive starring John Travolta, Mafia starring Christina Applegate, and Dawg starring Elizabeth Hurley. Helene was nominated for an Emmy for her work on Papa’s Angels starring Scott Bakula and Cynthia Nixon. Her credits also include the Holiday K-Mart Spots with Rosie O’ Donnell and Penny Marshall and Spelling Bee starring Charlie Sheen and Anna Faris.
She has staged many “live” shows with a line up of stars: Eric McCormick, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Thelma Houston and Lesley Ann Warren. Some of her music videos are Karyn White’s Love the Way You Love Me, Jack Wagner’s Weatherman Says, and the very popular Walk the Dinosaur by Was Not Was. People magazine’s review of the video said Helene’s choreography made “insanity fun and sexism sexy.”
Helene Phillips’s latest endeavors are directing a “live” tribute to Whitney Houston, directed and produced an Independent short film titled “Me and My Daughter” and is currently in pre-production on a television series which focuses on teens helping troubled teens via a hotline service.
As a teacher, Helene Phillips pulls from experience. Beginning in the 1980’s, Helene was one of the original “Solid Gold” dancers and was quickly named one of the top dancers of her time.
Helene Phillips has been teaching Advanced Jazz at Edge Performing Arts Studio in Hollywood, California for 2 decades as well as giving Master classes worldwide… New Zealand, Brazil, Toronto, Mexico, Japan (BDC), New York (BDC), Joe Tremaine’s Intensive Workshops, and Talent on Parade that teaches throughout the mid-west. She has also taught at several Universities such as: Loyola Marymount (LA), Arizona State, PACE (NY), and TAPS – Theatre Arts Preperatory School (Las Vegas).
Helene’s philosophy is focusing on each student as a “whole” and as a “brand.” “Being a dancer means a lot more than knowing how to point your foot or kick high, so I walk them through the entire process… from confidence, commitment, nutrition, taking care of your body, having the right attitude and appearance to getting gigs and networking in the dance world.”
In essence, Helene Phillips teaches “the pride of a dancer,” promoting confidence and commitment to all her dancers!
